The terrain map and property artwork became functional visuals, not decoration

Adding artwork was not simply about making the game prettier. The map and cards needed to carry visually some of the information that had previously existed only as text.

Situation

The early digital board worked, but it was highly abstract. In a physical board game, components are information surfaces: colour, terrain, regions and card artwork help players recognize state quickly. Removing those cues in a digital version forces more explanatory text and more mental translation from the player.

Approach

Terrain-map and property-card artwork were integrated while keeping domain data as the source of truth. Artwork did not decide what occupied a space; the renderer selected the correct layer and information from game state. The visual layer therefore helped interpretation without becoming another manually synchronized source of truth.

Outcome

The game became easier to read without entangling the rule engine with visual assets. The same layered approach later informed the unified country-board artwork system.
