A timeline is only a row of dates until it shows dependencies

Situation

Before an audit, it is easy to put a date next to every work package and turn the result into a Gantt-like plan. But if an external decision, organizational approval or system export slips, several later dates can become unrealistic at once. A plain timeline often reveals that dependency only after the damage is already visible.

Approach

I added blocking dependencies and decision points to the milestones. I did not expand every task to the same level of detail; I focused on the items that controlled the start or completion of several other pieces of work. Status reviews looked at those dependencies first and only then at raw deadline slippage.

Outcome

The management plan became less decorative and more useful for intervention. When something slipped, it was clear which later milestone was now at risk, so resource or decision support could be requested earlier.
